Last month I mentioned the research on Vitamin D and the impact that it has on our health. Since that article there have been several more bits of research substantiating the need to evaluate this vitamin / hormone. One recent study published last month in the Americal Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed the progress in the trend towards raising the recommended daily vitamin D dose to a range between 3800-5000 IU. Now as I stated in my last article due to deficiencies or other conditions an individual may need more than this amount for a short period of time to get levels into a "healthy" range. If this is the case (as it has been with many of my patients) be sure to get evaluated before, during, and after supplementation. By monitoring your blood levels of 25-OH Vit. D in this manner you will safely dose yourself and know exactly when to reduce your intake to a more typical dosing schedule. Best of Health to You, Dr. Dave Marquis, DC, DACBN |
